This Privacy Policy explains how ScoffScan (“we”, “us”) handles information when you use the ScoffScan Android application (“the app”). We aim to collect as little as possible and to be clear about what happens to your data.

1. What we collect

• On-device data (default): scans, favourites, and preferences can be stored locally on your device.
• Optional diagnostics (if you enable them): basic crash/bug information to help improve stability.

We do not require an account to use the core scanning features.

2. Camera and barcode scanning

The app uses your camera only to scan barcodes (and, in later phases, to capture label/ingredient text for manual entry). Camera frames are processed on-device for scanning and are not uploaded by default.

3. How we use information

• To show nutrition, ingredient, allergen and additive information.
• To remember your settings (e.g. units, accessibility options).
• To fix issues if you choose to share diagnostics.

4. Sharing and uploads

If you use features that share or upload information (for example, submitting a new product to the community database), we will clearly show what will be sent before anything leaves your device.

5. Third parties

We may use standard platform services (for example, Google Play services) required for app distribution and updates. If we add analytics or crash reporting, it will be optional and disclosed in the app and Play Store data safety section.

6. Data retention

On-device data remains on your device unless you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. Any uploaded submissions (if you choose to upload them) may be retained to maintain data integrity and audit trails.

7. Your choices

• Delete app data via Android settings or in-app controls (where provided).
• Disable optional diagnostics.
